The Buganda Kingdom has today held a special commemorative service at Kibuli Mosque to mark the 32nd coronation anniversary of His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

The thanksgiving event, which brought together dignitaries from both the Buganda Kingdom and the central government, was a moment of reflection and gratitude to God for the Kabaka’s continued leadership since his coronation in 1993.

Religious leaders from various faiths hailed Kabaka Mutebi II as a God-fearing and exemplary leader. They commended his commitment to spiritual values despite the weighty responsibilities of leading one of Uganda’s most prominent cultural institutions.

Prince Kassim Nakibinge, who was among the guests, thanked God for Kabaka’s life and expressed appreciation to the Kingdom for choosing Kibuli Mosque as the venue for this year’s celebration.

In his message, Kabaka Mutebi II thanked the Almighty for enabling him to lead the people of Buganda for over three decades. He encouraged the people of Buganda to remain united and focused, and expressed gratitude for their steadfast support.

Buganda Kingdom’s Premier (Katikkiro), Charles Peter Mayiga, also addressed the gathering. He joined in thanking God for preserving the Kabaka and urged all Baganda to maintain unity as a means to overcome the challenges facing the Kingdom.

The event was graced by several key figures, including the Nabagereka of Buganda, Sylvia Nagginda, and Prince Richard Semakookiro. National leaders from various sectors also conveyed their messages of congratulations and support.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, extended her tribute, saying, “I join all Ugandans in honouring and congratulating His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, on his 32nd coronation anniversary. May your reign continue to inspire and guide the socio-economic transformation of your people.”

National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi, also attended the ceremony and thanked God for protecting the Kabaka, emphasising his significance to the unity and cultural identity of Uganda.

The main sermon was delivered by Sheikh Yasin Kiweewa, who led the faithful in prayers for continued peace, health, and wisdom for the Kabaka.

Meanwhile, Olivia Suubi, the head teacher at God’s Way High School in Maganjo, Wakiso district, praised Kabaka Mutebi II for his support to the education and health sectors through various kingdom-led initiatives.
