As the CHAN 2024 tournament continues to captivate football fans, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) has provided an update on key developments concerning team accommodation and ticket sales. Speaking at a media briefing yesterday at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, Dr Dennis Mugimba, Chairperson of the LOC’s Communications and Signage Sub-Committee, congratulated the Uganda Cranes on their emphatic victory against Niger. He also encouraged Ugandans to extend their support to other participating teams.

“We call upon you, as passionate football fans, to cheer on Guinea and Algeria, as well as Niger and South Africa. How we cheer on our guests when they are competing against each other is a hallmark of being a great host nation,” Mugimba said.

The LOC commended the government for developing world-class hybrid pitch turfs at Namboole Main Stadium, the stadium annex training ground, and the Kyambogo football ground. According to Mugimba, all guest teams in Group C, along with CAF officials, have praised the quality of these pitches, which have successfully hosted six matches in just ten days. He further thanked the professional maintenance teams for their work in keeping the facilities in excellent condition.

On accommodation, Mugimba clarified that bookings are handled by CAF and the host football federation. “The government, as one of the CHAN 2024 host nations, is responsible for meeting hotel accommodation expenses for the teams we host, as part of the 13 million dollars we paid CAF. CAF assesses, approves, and contracts each team’s stay, usually giving the host national team the option to choose their hotel. Regardless of the choice, the government covers expenses for security, transport, and related services until the teams depart,” he explained.

Regarding ticketing, the LOC confirmed that no more physical tickets will be sold. Mugimba said CAF had experimented with 4,000 physical tickets at FUFA House prior to the 4th August match, but the process was discontinued. “If you buy a physical match-day ticket for CHAN 2024 now, you are either buying a fake or a duplicate. All tickets are purchased online. Fans should ensure all features are visible when printing their tickets,” he stressed.

The LOC reaffirmed that neither CAF nor the committee accords preferential treatment to any team, reiterating their commitment to fairness and hospitality throughout the tournament.
