Stargazers across Uganda are in for a rare celestial treat tonight as the planet Saturn reaches opposition, the point in its orbit where it is directly opposite the Sun as seen from Earth. This alignment makes Saturn appear at its biggest and brightest in the night sky.
Rising in the east just after sunset, the ringed planet will shine like a steady, golden star throughout the night, visible to the naked eye. Unlike twinkling stars, Saturn’s glow will be calm and constant, making it easy to spot.
Astronomers note that with a small telescope or even good binoculars, viewers may catch a glimpse of Saturn’s iconic rings, a breathtaking sight that has fascinated humanity for centuries.
“This is the best time of the year to observe Saturn,” says local astronomy enthusiasts. “From rural Uganda, where skies are darker, Saturn’s golden light will dominate the heavens.”
The spectacle will last all night, with the planet highest in the sky around midnight. Clear skies and reduced light pollution offer the best chance for an unforgettable view.
