The Minister of Local Government, Hon. Rafael Magyezi, yesterday officiated the handover ceremony of vehicles to local government leaders at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
A total of 176 double-cabin pickups were given to 135 District Chairpersons, 10 City Mayors, and 31 Municipal Leaders to facilitate monitoring of government programs and service delivery across the country.
Representing the Prime Minister, Magyezi said the vehicles, valued at UGX 35.2 billion, are part of President Yoweri Museveni’s pledge to strengthen local governance.
“These vehicles are not for campaigns and must be driven by official government drivers,” Magyezi said. “Those with old government vehicles should hand them over to the district speakers to support council work. They are meant for office duties, not for carrying building materials. I therefore urge you to vote for President Museveni.”
The event was also attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Transport, Waiswa Bageya, who noted that the vehicles are equipped with digital number plates to enhance accountability and tracking.
Ben Kumumanya, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, congratulated the leaders for their patience and urged them to put the vehicles to proper use by supervising government projects, mobilizing local revenue, and ensuring development results. He added that the vehicles may only be used for other purposes with formal written permission from the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) or Town Clerk.

Meanwhile, the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has confirmed that all preparations for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), due to start on Monday next week, are complete.
UNEB Executive Director Dan Odong cautioned school heads against any form of examination malpractice, warning that offenders risk imprisonment, fines of up to UGX 20 million, or both once found guilty.
Odong also revealed that the board assisted several learners whose head teachers had failed to register them. He added that over 800,000 candidates, the majority being girls, were successfully briefed on examination regulations and the “Dos and Don’ts.”
