President Yoweri Museveni, accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Museveni, has commissioned PRO Industries in Luweero District, praising the company’s contribution to agro-industrialization, value addition, and the promotion of cleaner energy solutions.

While addressing guests at the commissioning ceremony, President Museveni reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare, reducing the cost of production inputs such as electricity, and strengthening industrial growth as a pathway to job creation and economic transformation.

In her submission, the Director of PRO Pte Limited, Riddhi Oswal, said the Luweero plant is the largest extra-neutral alcohol (ENA) and ethanol production facility in East Africa. She noted that the plant has a production capacity of 120,000 litres of ENA per day and 35,000 litres of ethanol per day.

Oswal further revealed that the company has invested about USD 100 million in the Luweero facility. She added that ethanol blending is expected to significantly reduce Uganda’s annual petroleum import bill, estimated at USD 2 billion, while also promoting environmental sustainability through cleaner energy policies.

Leaders in Luweero District welcomed the investment and thanked PRO Industries for setting up the plant in the area. However, they appealed to the government to enact laws that would require investors to prioritize employment of local residents.

“I thank the government for allowing such investors to come and invest in our country, and particularly in Luweero District. However, I agree with my fellow leaders that when investors develop our areas, they should employ our youths. There are many jobs they can do, yet you may find that the majority of employees come from other districts, despite the availability of qualified people locally,” one leader said.
