The State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo, has called on parents to encourage their children to enroll in vocational and technical institutions in order to acquire practical skills that can help them secure jobs and become self-reliant.
The Minister made the remarks during the release of the 2025 final examination results at the headquarters of the Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board in Kyambogo, Kampala.
Muyingo noted that the government is committed to strengthening vocational education by investing more resources in building and supporting technical institutions. He emphasized that embracing such education will help reduce unemployment in the country.
He further urged Ugandans to take up vocational training courses and obtain recognized qualifications, saying this will enhance their chances of competing in both local and international job markets.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of UVTAB, Onesmus Oyesigye, said it is important for Ugandans to embrace skills-based training, noting that it plays a key role in driving the country’s development.
Oyesigye also commended the Uganda People’s Defence Forces for actively participating in vocational training programs. He added that other security agencies are also taking part in equipping their personnel with practical skills such as construction, carpentry, catering, mechanics, electrical installation, and water engineering.
