The National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) nomination process for members vying for various leadership positions is ongoing, with today marking the third day. So far, over 800 candidates have been nominated out of more than 2,000 who expressed interest by collecting nomination forms.
NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr Tanga Odoi, revealed this evening that only six petitions have been registered, three of which are criminal in nature and have been handed over to legal counsel for further action. Additionally, seven candidates have been nominated unopposed, possibly due to their popularity or mutual agreements among party members.
One notable contender is Tibulihwa Harriet Sali, who is challenging the incumbent, Rt Hon Robina Nabanja—the current Prime Minister of Uganda—for the Kakumiro District Woman Member of Parliament seat. Harriet claims that despite Rt Hon Nabanja’s prominent position, service delivery in the district remains inadequate, and she is determined to bring change.
The NRM is set to begin its primary elections next month, on the 16th, during which party members will vote to select candidates for the 2026–2031 general elections. With several high-profile contenders in the race, the primaries are expected to be highly competitive.
