The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has reaffirmed that Uganda is a secure destination for tourists. This reassurance follows the World Health Organisation (WHO) declaring Mpox a public health emergency of international concern.

Similarly, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention announced a public health emergency of continental significance.

UTB’s Senior Public Relations Officer, Simpson Gessa, stated that following the WHO declaration, Uganda confirmed two cases out of six samples tested. This prompted the implementation of enhanced surveillance and contact tracing protocols, along with intensified screening measures.

Simpson added that the country continues to rigorously implement health protocols across tourist facilities and public spaces to safeguard the health of both citizens and visitors.
