In a bid to foster economic empowerment and financial literacy among Ugandans, Kalanzi Lawrence, the presenter of the popular Tutese radio program on Mama FM, founded the Mama FM Business Forum back in April 2023. The forum, which has now grown to over 80 members, held its quarterly training seminar on business and financial literacy yesterday.
With a collective savings pot totalling 22 million Ugandan shillings, the forum aims to provide a platform for Mama FM listeners to exchange knowledge and business tips, thereby enhancing their financial management skills.
Speaking to Mama FM about the purpose of the seminar, Kalanzi emphasized the importance of financial management as a tool for economic empowerment. He urged Ugandans to embrace a culture of saving, particularly through group initiatives like the Mama FM Business Forum.
Members of the forum shared their testimonials, highlighting the positive impact the initiative has had on their lives. Nakyaze Shameem expressed gratitude for the forum, stating that it had opened her eyes to better business management practices and boosted her self-confidence and work ethic. Samuel Nkajja, a resident of Najjera Bulabira 2, encouraged other Mama FM listeners to join the forum to reap its numerous benefits.
Even professionals like Engineer Seruyange Adam, a computer engineer, commended Mama FM for providing a platform for listeners to come together for the common cause of economic empowerment.
Robinah Nkajja, another forum member, thanked Prof. Kalanzi for spearheading the initiative and urged those who blame the government for their poverty to take action and work towards improving their lives.
The Mama FM Business Forum’s commitment to empowering Ugandans through financial literacy and collective savings reflects a grassroots approach to addressing economic challenges and fostering self-reliance within local communities.
