Consecration of new assistant bishop and opening of new cathedral

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Steven Kazimba Mugalu, has announced dates to consecrate Venerable Rev Canon Fredrick Jackson Baalwa as the incoming assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala. This was during the press briefing at All saints Nakasero.

This appointment was unanimously approved by the House of Bishops on August 10, 2024, and confirmed by the special synod meeting on August 13, 2024.

The consecration of the Assistant Bishop will take place on November 1, 2024, at All Saints’ Cathedral Kampala, alongside the ordination of new clergy and installation of Canons. The Guest of Honor will be H.E. General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, and the Guest Preacher will be Rt. Rev Alfred Olwa, Bishop of Lango Diocese.

On the same day, the new 5000-seater Cathedral will be officially opened for worship. The construction of the Cathedral, which began in 2010, has been a collaborative effort, and the Diocese is grateful for the support of its members, well-wishers, and partners.

Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi, chair of the preparing committee, has called on the public to support the event and announced that 700 million shillings is still needed to meet the budget.

The construction of the new cathedral has already consumed 18 billion shillings, with an estimated additional 7 billion shillings required to complete the project, bringing the total cost to 25 billion shillings.
