Stand for HER LAND, in conjunction with Allied Workers Association, has organised a rights awareness campaign aimed at advancing women’s land rights globally
Speaking to the media at Nakawa Market, Hannah Mwesigwa, the Executive Director of the Allied Workers Association, stated that the campaign seeks to educate and equip women with knowledge about their land rights.
Hannah explained that the campaign was initiated after realising that many women are unaware of their land rights, leading to loss of land and property.
She stressed that the lack of understanding regarding land issues has been detrimental to women, who often face marginalisation in property ownership.
She further emphasised the important of this campaign, noting that it offers women a valuable opportunity to understand Uganda’s land tenure system without fear.
“We want women to understand that they also have rights to their land and should not think that they are not entitled to it. Women should recognise their responsibilities and rights to the land that has been given to them and stop being marginalised and remaining poor. Education, especially for women, has helped them realise that they too can have ownership and control over land.” Hannah Mwesigwa said.
