After several loud cries for clean water, the residents of Kigowa II a Kampala suburb in Nakawa Division have welcomed a well which has been partly funded by Nasreen Begum through the Water well project and Nakawa Division
Mary Ssebuliba who donated the piece of land where the well has been constructed said that she gave this piece of land to the community as way of helping in eradicating diseases caused by unclean water. “This is my area I have lived since the 80s, I have seen residents suffer to get clean water yet we have natural springs that good Samaritans have made good use of to build us this well” she said
She further thanked the area councilor Kalanzi Lawrence who interested the leadership of Nakawa Division to construct the well.
While commissioning the well, Hon.Luyombya Godfrey, speaker of Nakawa Division said at least 9 other Water Wells have been constructed in Nakawa through this project. He said the main aim is to make sure the area has clean and safe water, adding that not residents can afford to pay National water bills ‘’I request the people of this area to guard and protect this well as a treasure and I also encourage you to boil this water before you drink it”
Edith Kakomo, a local resident and an LC1 treasurer said that residents have been walking long distance to fetch and puts their at risk especially while crossing the Northern Bypass
Mr. Kalanzi Lawrence the area councilor, noted that majority of the people are low income earners and therefore can not afford paying National water services hence they resort to using contaminated water putting their health at risk
