For Cheptoek Abigail Solimo, the climate crisis is not just about changing weather it is about lives lost, families broken and memories that continue to hurt. Coming from the Sebei region and studying Environmental Science at Kyambogo University, she has witnessed the devastating effects of landslides firsthand, including the loss of her close friend, Chelanga Charity.

Her story is a painful reminder that climate-related disasters leave behind more than physical destruction; they leave trauma, grief and unanswered questions. Yet Abigail is choosing to turn that pain into action speaking to communities, helping people understand the causes of climate change and advocating for safer, more resilient communities.

Today, she speaks not only as a student, but as a young climate advocate calling for greater awareness, preparedness and climate action to protect lives. Listen below

Solimo, now a climate advocate reflects on loss, trauma and the urgent need for safer, climate-resilient communities
