The chairman of Yamaha centre, Godfrey Muhiirwa, stepped forward to provide aid to the affected families of the Kiteezi landfill tragedy. He mobilised essential items, including shelter materials such as 300 pairs of bed sheets.
Muhiirwa and his team also provided emotional support and counselling to the victims, many of whom had lost loved ones and were struggling to cope with the trauma. “We are committed to supporting our community in times of need,” Muhiirwa said. “The Kiteezi tragedy has left many families in distress, and we want to help alleviate their suffering.”
Muhiirwa’s efforts were recognised by local leaders, including Wakiso RDC Justine Mbabazi, who praised his contributions to the relief efforts. “Chairman Muhiirwa’s generosity and compassion are a shining example of community spirit,” RDC Mbabazi said.
“We appreciate his support and encourage others to follow his lead,” she said. However, she also warned those falsely claiming to be victims of the Kiteezi tragedy for personal gain to cease their actions immediately. The RCC has also cautioned against such fraudulent activities, emphasising that resources intended for the victims should not be diverted.
