The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Executive Director and Census Commissioner Chris Mukiza has admitted that there were significant errors in the information on tribes, in the 2024 Census results he released last week but with no impact on the final statistics results.
The report indicated that Acholi have reduced from 2.1 million to 1.9 million in the 10 years from 2014, while Bagisu are only 2.1 million, down from 2.4 million at the last census , report also indicated that the population of main religions, including Catholics, had declined among others .
While addressing journalists during the media breakfast meeting organized by UBOS at Serena hotel in Kampala Mukiza revealed that it was a human error and issues like population figures for Bakiga and Bagisu; Langi and Acholi were erroneously interchanged at the time of printing but every tribe experienced growth over the past 10 years.
Mukiza says people should instead praise the work done by the Bureau which is going to help the social economic and political growth of the country than asking for resignation of the Bureau’s officials.
