In a bid to address poor communication concerns, the Community Development Officer (CDO) of Kalagala subcounty, Katimbo Livingston, held a second meeting with community members from Kalungu, Kireka, and Namunyaga villages. The meeting, which saw a high turnout of 80 members, aimed to sensitise the community on government programmes available to them.
The members, comprising women aged 18-31, youth, and older persons aged 60-79, were represented from the three villages. During the meeting, many community members expressed their lack of knowledge about these programmes. In response, the CDO facilitated the formation of various groups, including women’s, youth, and older persons’ groups. Each group was tasked with selecting an enterprise, electing office bearers, and coming up with a group name.
The meeting was deemed a success, with community members leaving with a newfound understanding of government programmes and a sense of hope. The CDO published a development model, outlining the steps and processes for accessing government programmes. When asked about the time frame for receiving funding, CDO Katimbo explained that it would take three years, with the first year focused on hard work and the second year marking the start of receiving funds.
Community member Nabwire asked about the timeline, seeking clarification on when they could expect to receive funding. The CDO’s response provided reassurance, and the meeting concluded on a positive note.
This initiative is a step towards bridging the communication gap between the government and community members, empowering them to access available resources and improve their livelihoods.
