According to the UN Women fact sheet report, 2019-2020, women in sub-Saharan Africa spend 4 hours and 25 minutes per day on unpaid care work, compared to 1 hour and 23 minutes for men, resulting in women spending 3.2 times more hours on unpaid care than men. In this episode of Abakyala Tweyogere we examine the gender dynamics of household labour, exploring who takes on these tasks and
how roles can be more evenly distributed.

Guests hosted on Mama FM to discuss whose role it is in domestic care. The guests are: (L-R) A couple Paul Kiyimba and his wife Gloria Kiyimba, centre is Regina Nassanga, programme host and Gertrude Narubinga from Farm Radio International (Uganda)

This programme was produced as part of the Aftershocks Data Fellowship (22-23) with support from the Africa Women’s Journalism Project (AWJP) in partnership with The ONE Campaign and the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ).
