As demand for parents to know if they are parents of children in question especially from the fathers, Many Laboratories have been in business for DNA testing, whereas today, Government has put only 2 main laboratories to continue carrying out this business
Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng made the revelation on Monday while addressing the press where she set conditions for laboratories intending to carry out DNA testing.
Minister Aceng says, these tow Laboratories have been certified/accredited by Allied Health professionals among other bodies and include; Government Anaytical Laboratory in Wandegeya and MBN Clinical Laboratory on Nakasero Road, both in Kampala, shall be allowed to do DNA paternity testing in Uganda
Minister notified that Laboratories which are prepared and want to do DNA paternity testing can apply to the Director General of Health Services who will set up a team of experts to assess the Laboratory for certification
Minister further stated that there is no DNA rise because the service has been in a country for more than 20 years
The Health Minister also added that, “No Laboratories and clinics shall be allowed to collect samples for DNA paternity testing unless they have agreements with the Laboratory to which they send samples for testing and the testing Laboratory take full accountability for the results.” In the new guidelines, No Laboratory or any facility shall ship any samples for DNA paternity testing outside the country except with special clearance from the Director General of Health Services and/ or Uganda National Council for Science and Technology
