Mubende Woman MP Calls for Climate Change Support For Communities

The Mubende District Woman Member of Parliament, Nakazibwe Hope Grania, has called for increased government support to communities affected by climate change.

Nakazibwe made the remarks while attending the orientation of members of Uganda’s 12th Parliament in Kampala, where she highlighted the challenges communities face as they try to adapt to the effects of climate change.

She said climate change is increasingly affecting families and livelihoods, making it difficult for communities to provide for their children and meet other basic needs.

Nakazibwe called for increased investment in climate-change programmes, particularly initiatives that equip communities with knowledge and skills to adapt to changing weather patterns and protect their livelihoods.

She also emphasized the importance of passing climate-change knowledge on to children, saying young people need to understand the importance of protecting the environment and using land sustainably.

The legislator said communities must be supported to protect their land and natural resources, warning that continued environmental degradation could worsen the effects of climate change.

She urged Parliament and district leaders to prioritize climate-related interventions and ensure that resources reach communities that are most affected.

Nakazibwe also called for greater support for training programmes that enable communities to understand climate change and adopt practical measures to cope with its effects.She said stronger collaboration between Parliament, local governments and communities will be necessary to address climate challenges and protect livelihoods for future generations.
