Victoria University’s student population has grown from 180 in 2020 to 16,000, with Vice Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga calling for greater investment in digital education and the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) to prepare graduates for the future.

Speaking at the university’s 10th graduation ceremony held at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala, Dr. Muganga revealed that the number of graduates had also increased from 48 in 2021 to 2,600 this year.

He said the university’s growth reflects its commitment to expanding access to higher education while equipping learners with skills relevant to the changing job market.

Dr. Muganga emphasized the importance of embracing technology in education, noting that artificial intelligence can support teaching, improve learning and create new opportunities for students when used responsibly.

He said universities need to adapt to technological changes and prepare learners to use digital tools to address real-world challenges.

The Vice Chancellor’s remarks come at a time when artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing teaching, research and learning, prompting institutions to explore how the technology can be integrated into education.

He stressed the importance of providing students with relevant knowledge and skills to help them adapt to the demands of a technology driven world.

The 10th graduation ceremony marks another milestone for Victoria University as it continues to expand its student population and strengthen its role in Uganda’s higher education sector.

The institution’s growing enrolment and increasing number of graduates highlight the expanding demand for higher education and the need for universities to prepare students for emerging opportunities in the digital economy.
