Journalists from across the country gathered in Rakai District for the official send-off of NBS Television journalist Julius Kitone, who lost his life in a road accident last week that claimed eight people.

Speaking on behalf of the journalists, Abu Lubowa described Kitone as a genuine, reliable and dedicated professional who was deeply committed to his work. He said the media fraternity has lost a caring colleague whose contribution to journalism will be greatly missed.

“As a media fraternity, we have lost a journalist who has been reliable and caring. We are going to miss Kitone in this field, but we thank God for the time we had with him. We have lost two journalists in just a few days. We urge the government to ensure that road safety laws and guidelines are strongly enforced. To fellow journalists, Kitone was caring towards his colleagues and the people he served. Let us emulate him and treat others the same way,” Lubowa said.

The burial was attended by politicians, members of the public and colleagues from Next Media. The NBS team, led by Ismail Sembatya, said the company has lost a committed and hardworking employee who always executed his duties with professionalism.

The deceased’s father, Ndawula Emmanuel, thanked all those who stood with the family during the difficult period. He described his son as someone who always supported his family and remained responsible.

“I want to appreciate everyone who has contributed to this occasion. I pray that the Lord Almighty blesses you all and comfort us as a family,” he said.

Journalists were advised to exercise caution in their daily work and to plan carefully for their future, especially given the risks associated with their profession.
