In a jubilant celebration marked by unity and a shared commitment to inclusive development, the Bukoto Community Development Fund (BUCODEF) commemorated its second anniversary at Ntinda Hospital. The event, held under the theme “A Community that Works Together in Unity for Inclusive Development,” brought together community members, leaders, and stakeholders dedicated to the progress of Bukoto.

The guest of honor, Mayor Paul Mugambe of Nakawa Division, graced the occasion with his presence and delivered a keynote address emphasizing the significance of communal cooperation in fostering sustainable growth. The brainchild behind the fund, Area Councilor Kalanzi Lawrence, played a pivotal role in organizing the event and expressed gratitude for the unwavering support received from the community since his electoral victory.

During his remarks, Kalanzi Lawrence extended heartfelt thanks to those who stood by him after his electoral triumph. He reiterated his dedication to the community, promising to continue advocating for financial literacy training programs aimed at empowering and uplifting the residents of Bukoto 2 Parish.

Mayor Paul Mugambe, in a wise and cautionary address, urged members of the fund to exercise prudence in their financial decisions and cautioned against unnecessary spending. As a tangible gesture of support, the Mayor generously gifted the fund with 1.5 million Ugandan Shillings, underscoring the municipality’s endorsement of their collective efforts towards community development.

The progress report, presented by Kalanzi Lawrence, illuminated the remarkable growth of the Bukoto Community Development Fund over the past two years. Membership surged from 349 in 2021 to an impressive 610 as of October 30, 2023, reflecting the community’s unwavering commitment to collective progress and development.

Financial achievements were equally noteworthy, with the fund amassing a substantial total savings of 293,867,400 Ugandan Shillings in 2023. Individual savers contributed significantly, with total savings reaching 128,871,700 Shillings, followed closely by the boda boda group at 81,970,000 Shillings. Other groups and individuals showcased their commitment through substantial contributions, exemplifying a diverse and engaged membership.

The anniversary celebrations commenced with an educational session, teaching holidaymakers how to create black books, promoting both creativity and skill development. The festivities continued with a Catholic mass, emphasizing the spiritual aspect of community unity and collaboration.

As the Bukoto Community Development Fund enters its third year, the momentum generated by its members and leaders paints a promising future for the community—one marked by unity, collaboration, and sustainable development. The anniversary celebrations served not only as a moment of reflection but also as a powerful reminder of the community’s shared vision for a better and more inclusive Bukoto.
