The First Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda, Woman Member of Parliament for Kamuli District, and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has pledged to prioritise women’s issues within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the country at large. This follows her nomination to contest for the position of First National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC).

Kadaga made the remarks while addressing the media shortly after her nomination at the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters in Kyadondo, Kampala.

“I want to thank the NRM Electoral Commission for organising this exercise. I am confident that I will win this race. I would also like to clear the air regarding rumours that I had stepped down— I am here, and I have been duly nominated. I urge our voters to give me the opportunity to serve them once again,” she said.

The nomination process has proceeded smoothly. The Minister of Security, Hon. Jim Muhwezi, has also been nominated to represent veterans on the Central Executive Committee.

“I want to inform the nation that the issues affecting veterans have been addressed in phases, and I intend to continue in the same manner. During my tenure, veterans have received support from the government through the Ministry of Defence. I pledge to continue working with veterans to resolve the outstanding issues,” he said.

Dr Oredo Samuel, speaking to the media after his nomination to contest for the position of First National Vice Chairperson, stated that he aims to serve as a bridge connecting the people to the Central Executive Committee.

“For a long time, leaders have not truly served the people, and I am here to change that. As a medical doctor, I have come to treat the ailments affecting our communities. I believe that if party members give me the opportunity, I will be able to serve them effectively,” Oredo said.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) told the media yesterday that party primaries will be held on 17th July 2025. The President and Chairman of the NRM party, Yoweri Museveni, is expected to be nominated this Saturday for two positions: Presidential Flag Bearer and Party Chairman.

According to the NRM Electoral Commission, candidates who have been successfully nominated to contest for Member of Parliament are advised to hold joint campaigns in order to save time. It should be noted that the nomination exercise began on 2nd June 2025 and is scheduled to conclude on 5th July 2025.
