Whereas Article 6 of the Uganda Dance Sport Federation (UDSF) Constitution stipulates that the Returning Officer shall declare the winners, delegates at the General Assembly held yesterday at Pope Paul VI Hotel in Ndeeba, Kampala District, elected new leaders to steer the federation for the next four years.

Speaking to journalists, Donald Rukare, President of the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC), commended the federation for conducting a peaceful Annual General Meeting (AGM).

“I want to congratulate you for organising a peaceful AGM. In some AGMs, you see tables being turned around, but this one was peaceful,” he said.

Returning Officer Annet Nakamya expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to oversee the election process and wished the newly elected members a successful term in office. Delegates from regions across the country, including the Northern, Western, and Central regions, participated in the secret ballot exercise.

Innocent Atuhaire was elected President General unopposed, in absentia, while General Secretary Barnabas Sebuyungo also went through unopposed. Sarah Annet Nankya, who represented the National Council of Sports (NCS), commended the federation for fulfilling its obligations as required by the Council.

In the other contests, Mable Birungi secured 51 votes against Joseph Asiimwe’s 24, while Abas Bogere defeated Gerald Kawuma for the position of First Vice President in charge of Administration.

Meanwhile, General Secretary Barnabas Sebuyungo informed delegates that school membership fees will be set at Uganda Shillings 450,000 per year.

“Government gives us only Uganda Shillings 10 million, which is not enough to cover expenses, so we sometimes get loans from other people,” he explained.

In a separate sports development, Vipers Sports Club Executive Director, Dr Lawrence Mulindwa, has maintained his firm stance against the new league format introduced by FUFA. Despite internal discussions, Dr Mulindwa and fellow club investor Hajji Mandella continue to oppose the proposed structure, warning that unresolved disagreements could hinder Uganda’s football progress.

Observers caution that the dispute could discourage growing support for local clubs and ultimately affect government revenue if not addressed promptly.
