The Justice Forum (JEEMA) has called for unity among opposition forces following remarks by presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, who advised voters in Bugiri Municipality to replace incumbent Member of Parliament and JEEMA president, Hon. Asuman Basalirwa.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, JEEMA expressed concern over what it termed as “inconsistencies emanating from supposed friendly forces,” warning that such divisions could weaken the opposition at a time when Ugandans expect a united front.
The party’s spokesperson, Dr. Swaib Kaggwa Nsereko, said JEEMA would not engage in verbal exchanges but would instead trust voters to make informed choices. He criticized Kyagulanyi for endorsing regime figures such as Right Hon. Rebecca Kadaga while calling for the replacement of an opposition leader.
“When this last happened in Koboko County during the 2021 elections, the ruling party nearly swept the entire region,” Nsereko noted. “Will endorsing Kadaga of NRM deliver Busoga to the opposition, or will it weaken our cause?”
JEEMA further urged opposition groups to avoid distractions and work together in the lead-up to Uganda’s 2026 general elections. The party also commended Bugiri Municipality voters for their continued support of Hon. Basalirwa and for upholding opposition unity.
