Following the sacking of Manchester United head coach Robin Amorim by club officials yesterday, football fans and enthusiasts in Uganda have expressed mixed reactions to the decision.

Katongole Collins, a former Manchester United supporter, said the club should have acted earlier if they genuinely intended to part ways with Amorim. “I think Manchester United should have sacked Amorim last season. This season has at least shown some improvement. Since they allowed him to start the season, they should have been more patient and waited until next season. His sacking should be based on this season’s performance,” Collins said.

Naiga Usnah, a Manchester United supporter based in Kampala, welcomed the decision, saying the club deserves better results. “I am very happy that Amorim has been sacked. In fact, they delayed. Manchester United is a big club, even bigger than Arsenal, which is currently top of the table. Arsenal has never won the UEFA Champions League, yet United has won it three times. My only concern is the new manager — the club must give him time to understand how things work. I hope they appoint someone familiar with Premier League football,” she said.

Other supporters, including Kaweesi George, Nankya Agnes, Ainebyona Frank, and Edward Senyonjo, also agreed with the club’s decision.

Robin Amorim joined Manchester United in November 2024 and led the club to the UEFA Europa League final last season. The 40-year-old Portuguese coach signed several players during his tenure, including Nuno Santos, Matheus Nunes, Paulinho, Marcus Edwards, Pedro Porro, Pedro Gonçalves, Ayden Heaven, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Cunha, and Senne Lemmens.

In an official statement, the club confirmed Amorim’s departure and thanked him for his service. “Robin Amorim has departed from his role as head coach of Manchester United. He was appointed in November 2024 and led the club to the Europa League final. The club’s leadership has decided that now is the right time to make a change, which will give the team the best opportunity to achieve the highest possible Premier League finish,” the statement read.

“The club would like to thank Robin Amorim for his contribution and wishes him well in his future endeavours. Rainy Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday,” the statement added.

Several names have already been mentioned as possible replacements, including Enzo Maresca, Michael Carrick, Gareth Southgate, Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth, Xavi, and Oliver Glasner.

Manchester United currently sits sixth in the Premier League table.
