Christians around the world have today celebrated Easter, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Book of Gospel of Luke, chapter 24, verses 1 to 6. The scripture recounts how, on the first day of the week, women went to the tomb of Jesus only to find the stone rolled away and His body missing, with angels declaring, “He is not here; He has risen.”
Believers in Christ Jesus gathered in various places of worship to attend Easter services, commemorating this central event in the Christian faith.
In his Easter message, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, condemned the recent tragic incident in Ggaba, where a man attacked and killed four innocent children.
“We glorify God for giving us His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, who died for our sins, and today we remember His resurrection. As the Church of Uganda, we condemn what happened to the innocent children in Ggaba. We urge people to share love this Easter,” he said.
The Archbishop also called on believers to support those in need, noting that while some people have plenty, others lack basic necessities. He encouraged generosity as a reflection of the true meaning of Easter.
“We want to encourage those with surplus to give to those in need. Easter is about giving. I also urge all of us to pray for the people in the Middle East, where many have lost their lives, and ask for God’s intervention so that peace may prevail,” he added.
Meanwhile, Joseph Serwadda, the lead pastor of Victory Christian Centre in Ndeeba, Kampala, in his Easter message at Doxa Grounds in Lubowa, emphasized forgiveness and remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice.
He noted that Easter is a time for believers to forgive one another and reflect on what Jesus Christ did for the sins of the world.
