The Member of Parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe and former Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga, has today unveiled a new political party named the Democratic Front in Kampala.
In his address, Mpuuga emphasised that all political actors must possess knowledge, understanding, and a deeper appreciation of their surroundings.
“Under the Democratic Front (DF), we, the midwives of this idea, believe it is no longer tenable for the opposition to move in different directions. We want to be part of politics that yields tangible results for our people. That is why we insist on building a framework for working together. We went out of our way to engage with several political parties and held meaningful interactions,” he said.
Mpuuga assured Ugandans that they have never closed the door on negotiations.
“I call upon the political opposition—regardless of your background or motivation—to find common ground to confront our shared challenges and common opponent. As the Democratic Alliance (DA), we identified the need to foster unity and grassroots engagement. We still believe that by working together, we can seize the low-hanging fruits,” he added.
The former Leader of the Opposition reaffirmed that the birth of the new political party does not compromise the founding principles of the Democratic Alliance (DA). He noted that the Democratic Front is part of the alliance and that its leadership will soon provide direction for all those seeking political office.
He also clarified that he is currently serving as the National Coordinator, and the party’s full leadership will be announced in due course. Mpuuga congratulated everyone who contributed to the successful registration and certification of the new party.
