The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) yesterday held a meeting with heads of major media houses at its headquarters in Kampala to discuss key issues, including licensing and media conduct ahead of the 2026 general elections.

UCC Executive Director Nyombi Thembo reminded media practitioners that only the Electoral Commission is legally mandated to announce election results and warned that any media house attempting to do so would face consequences. He emphasised the importance of professionalism, responsibility, and accountability in media coverage during the election period, noting that reckless reporting could jeopardise peace and national security.

The meeting also discussed plans to take journalists to Kyankwanzi for training on patriotism and related topics. Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, Director of Defence Public Information, attended the session and urged the media to exercise caution in their reporting to avoid fuelling insecurity.

Meanwhile, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has begun preparations for its delegates’ conference, scheduled for 26–28 August 2025 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. The process began yesterday with the accreditation of delegates, followed by a National Executive Committee meeting today.

Former Minister of Trade, Hon. Amelia Kyambadde, expressed satisfaction with the process despite some delays and said she is optimistic about regaining a parliamentary seat in the forthcoming elections, citing voter dissatisfaction with the current MP in her constituency. NRM Vice Chairman for the Central Region, Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi, also expressed confidence, stating that his record of service speaks for itself and that he is certain of being re-elected by delegates.
