As Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections, political parties continue to move across the country outlining their plans for the nation. Following the National Resistance Movement (NRM) manifesto launch on September 29, 2025, where the ruling party pledged to protect what they have gained over the years, the National Unity Platform (NUP) today unveiled its own manifesto at the party headquarters in Makerere Kavule, Kampala.
Addressing journalists and supporters, NUP Secretary General David Rubongoya said the party’s manifesto focuses on 11 key areas including governance, health, and education. “We are here to unpack our manifesto, legal justice, media rights,” Rubongoya noted as he outlined governance as the party’s top priority.
The party Spokesperson and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Rt. Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, emphasised that NUP plans to restore presidential term limits, remove or reduce taxes on sanitary towels, and ensure that any attempt to amend term limits again would attract treason charges. He further noted that civilians should not be tried in military courts.
On health, Dr. Shamim Nambassa pledged to improve access to quality healthcare, clean water, and better roads.
Party President Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, commended young people for their active participation and urged them to remain steadfast. “Whatever we have shared with the country is still a dream, but it is a dream worth dying for,” Kyagulanyi said. He also cautioned indisciplined individuals who exploit or steal from others during campaigns, warning that they will face serious consequences.
Among those in attendance were Hon. Betty Nambooze, Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, KCCA Speaker Zahra Luyirika, Bosco Lusagala, and Mubiru James.
