The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Ben Kumumanya, has directed all Local Government Engineers across the country to thoroughly document infrastructure projects within their jurisdictions.

Kumumanya issued the directive while addressing District, City, and Municipal Engineers during a meeting at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala. He emphasised the need for a comprehensive inventory of all roads, specifying that reports must indicate the parishes served in accordance with the Parish Development Model (PDM), as well as the corresponding subcounties.

He further encouraged engineers to work closely with District and City Resident Commissioners to enhance service delivery, transparency, and accountability. The Permanent Secretary also urged officers serving in acting capacities to apply for the 22 recently advertised Local Government Engineer positions in various local governments.

Attendees applauded the Permanent Secretary for his continued guidance and pledged to maintain diligence in their work. However, they also highlighted challenges in fully meeting their responsibilities and called on the Ministry of Local Government to address existing gaps.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Nsooba Slaughter House in Kampala, Sekanyo Suleiman, reassured the public of a steady beef supply during the Christmas and New Year festivities, although prices may rise slightly due to market factors. He urged Ugandans to remain peaceful as the country prepares for the 2026–2031 elections.

“I want to thank God that our work is moving smoothly despite some challenges. We remind our clients that, as usual, beef will be available during and after the festivities. Parents should also teach their children about work and let them know where school fees come from,” he said.

In a related development, the Chairman of Namayiba Taxi Park, Faizo Sebirumbi, has cautioned parents picking up children from boarding schools to be vigilant when choosing transport. He cited incidents where parents hired taxis from undesignated locations and were subsequently robbed.

“We remind our customers, especially parents, to use taxis from designated stages to avoid theft. Learners should also board from official parks and clearly label items such as mattresses with names and contact details so they can be returned if forgotten,” Sebirumbi said.
