Government has asked Media practitioners to prioritize professionalism while executing their work.

The call was made by the Executive Director of Uganda Communications commission (UCC) Nyombi Thembo yesterday evening at hotel African while delivering his remarks at the Annual Journalism Convention Media Dialogue organised by Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) inpaternship with Public Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU).

Nyombi said that today the trend at which media operates has totally changed whereby media and every one can be a journalist because he/ she has a smart phone so it’s upon main stream media practitioners to use high professionalism to be separated from other people.

Nyombi adds that today media is much interested in potraying and reporting false news which he says is bad and can easily cause problems to society.

He however urged media platforms such as NAB, UJA, UJU among others to set standards that media houses should follow while doing there work and disclosed that UCC will continue monitoring the ICT eco-system for new trends and developments.

Meanwhile they also recognized and awarded some of the Media personalities who have fought for the rights of Journalists in Uganda and these include Uganda Media Women’s Association Executive Director Margarete.B.Sentamu, Dr Sam Kazibwe, Dr Livingston Sewanyana, Joshua Kyalimpa among others.
