Due to the high number of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kitgum district, there is a call for the government to investigate and study the causes of these disabilities.

According to Mr. Omoya Mathew Atoo, Chairperson of the Kitgum District Council for PWDs, Kitgum district has 24,200 registered PWDs, with additional cases yet to be documented.

During the wheelchair donation event to PWDs by Hon. Lillian Aber, Minister of State for Relief and Disaster Preparedness, Mr. Julius Opoi from O.J Foundation, a wheelchair supplier, expressed concern over the high number of PWDs in Kitgum district.

He mentioned that despite the region enduring insurgency for over 20 years and other disease outbreaks, the government should conduct research to determine the causes of disabilities among residents.
