Uganda’s Carol Kakooza wins top women in tech award

The Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation has commended Ugandan innovator Carol Kyazze Kakooza, Executive Director of Axiom Zorn, for her remarkable achievement in winning a prestigious Women in Tech Award at GITEX Africa, the continent’s largest and most influential technology summit.

Axiom Zorn, a Ugandan data forensics and digital innovation enterprise led by Kakooza, was recognised for its groundbreaking work in leveraging inclusive, tech-driven solutions to empower underserved communities. The award was presented at the event held in Marrakech, Morocco.

Carol Kyazze Kakooza emerged as the top contender for the Women in Tech Award, distinguishing herself among hundreds of visionary leaders from across Africa.

Axiom Zorn’s success is anchored in transformative digital tools such as the Digital Empowerment Card and the Digital Agriculture Reference Bureau platforms designed to boost financial inclusion, improve agricultural productivity, and enable data-driven policymaking.

The Axiom Zorn model specifically targets farmers, women, and youth at the base of the economic pyramid, using technology as a tool to foster opportunity, inclusion, and resilience.

This prestigious award reaffirms Axiom Zorn’s commitment to advancing inclusive innovation across Africa amplifying the voices of the communities it serves, championing digital innovation, and representing Uganda on the global stage.

Carol Kyazze Kakooza, the award-winning founder of Axiom Zorn, stated that the recognition not only gave her a platform but also enabled her to represent women, Axiom Zorn, and Uganda at large on the global stage.

Kenneth Bagarukayo, Commissioner from the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, while delivering the Chief Guest’s message on behalf of Dr. Aminah Zawedde, stated that this win is not just for Axiom Zorn but for the entire country, and all women in technology.

Bagarukayo further called upon other development partners in the private sector to join and take part in this journey of digital innovation.
