The Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University, Dr Lawrence Muganga, has challenged students to look beyond the classroom and actively pursue real-world experience that will shape their future careers and lives.
Speaking to students during the launch of 20 years of celebrating Pastor Wilson Bugembe, Dr Muganga emphasised that academic learning alone is not enough for success in today’s fast-changing world.
He highlighted that students at Victoria University spend a maximum of 16 hours per week in class and urged them to use the remaining time meaningfully.
“I wouldn’t expect you to sit in our classrooms for more than 15 hours a week—maximum 16. The rest of the hours, find something to do. Find what? That is far more important than anything I can teach you in the classroom because I can’t teach you experience,” Dr Muganga stated.
He encouraged students who are unsure of how to spend their time or struggling to find direction to connect with the university’s Career and Employability Office (CEO).
Praising the office and its team, Dr Muganga said the CEO initiative is designed to bridge the gap between education and the job market, preparing students to become job creators and future leaders.
“You will meet an amazing lady from the CEO office. If you’re struggling with what to do, go to the CEO office and become a CEO member. Their work will change your life,” he added.
The Vice-Chancellor’s remarks reflect Victoria University’s growing focus on practical, skills-based learning and its mission to produce well-rounded graduates who are ready to thrive in the real world.
Meanwhile, Pastor Wilson Bugembe has urged churches to register officially, noting that while fraudsters are on the rise, proper registration can help protect genuine believers from exploitation.
He emphasised the need for each denomination to appoint senior, knowledgeable leaders who can help identify authentic churches.
He also recommended the formation of advisory committees within each faith group to guide decisions before any constitutional amendments are made.
Pastor Bugembe expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University for supporting his upcoming event on 8 August at Serena Hotel, which will mark 20 years of his ministry.
