In a bold move to enhance community health awareness, the AHF Kitante Wellness Centre has officially launched a boda boda activation campaign, flagging off a team of riders as ambassadors for the Centre’s essential health services.
The ceremony, held today at the Wellness Centre in Kitante, saw several boda boda riders formally commissioned to disseminate information and promote access to HIV testing, treatment, and other free health services provided by AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Uganda.
AHF Uganda Cares is leveraging the influence of these riders to reach a wider audience with messages of prevention, testing, and care. As part of the initiative, over 20 boda boda riders voluntarily underwent HIV testing, setting an example for their peers.
The campaign also emphasises the availability of free HIV services offered by AHF Uganda Cares, including counselling, testing, and antiretroviral treatment.
During an interaction with the riders, many expressed concern over the low number of colleagues willing to go for testing.
They urged fellow riders to take responsibility for their health and find out their HIV status. “We’re tired of seeing our friends fall sick or even die because they didn’t know their status early enough. Testing is free, and treatment is available. There’s no reason to wait,” said one of the riders.
The boda boda activation is part of AHF Uganda Cares’ broader strategy to bring healthcare closer to communities through innovative, grassroots-driven initiatives.
