The Dettol Hygiene Quest Programme, a collaboration between Reckitt and the Ministry of Education, has made significant strides in improving hygiene practices in Ugandan schools. Dr Hajjati Safiina Museene, Commissioner of Health Training Institutions at the Ministry of Education and Sports, says the programme aligns with Uganda’s National School Policy 2023 and School Washing Policy 2023.

“Initiatives like this help learners remain free from preventable diseases,” Dr Museene said during the launch of Phase Two of the Dettol Hygiene Quest in Kampala on 15 October 2025. The programme has already achieved notable success in schools across Kisoro, Kanungu, Iganga, Kamuli, and other districts.

Phase One made impressive achievements, reaching 750 schools, establishing 1,500 handwashing stations, and impacting over 450,000 students and educators. Phase Two aims to expand to 750 more schools in high-need areas, launching the Dettol Hygiene Quest App to track progress and attendance.

“We are excited to launch Phase Two of the Dettol Hygiene Quest in Uganda, a continued step in our mission to improve hygiene among children, families, and communities,” said, Dr. Shamim Nabuuma CEO of CHI Group of Companies. “Phase One demonstrated the power of collaboration, technology, and community. We saw children adopt new hygiene habits that protect their health and begin to transform lives.”

The Minister in charge of Karamoja Affairs, Hon. Florence Nambozo Wamala, emphasised the importance of hygiene during the launch, stating:

“A community cannot grow when there is no concern for hygiene.” The Dettol Hygiene Quest Programme is working to change this narrative, one school at a time.

By promoting good hygiene practices, the programme can help reduce absenteeism, improve learning outcomes, and empower children to become responsible and confident citizens. Its impact is substantial, with the potential to enhance the health and well-being of Uganda’s school-going children.
