The Electoral Commission has confirmed the successful nomination of candidates representing various special interest groups to Parliament.
According to officials, by 1 p.m. on the first day of nominations, 12 candidates had been nominated to contest for the position of workers’ representatives, while nine candidates had been cleared to run as representatives of persons with disabilities.
The exercise, which also includes nominations for youth and older persons, is part of the ongoing preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Paul Bukenya spokesperson EC,emphasized that the nomination process is proceeding smoothly and will continue as scheduled for all four categories — workers, youth, older persons, and persons with disabilities.
Julia Muhumuza, who has been duly nominated to contest for the position of National Female Youth Member of Parliament for the 2026–2031 term, has pledged to work closely with the government to ensure more job opportunities for young people across the country.
Muhumuza said her leadership will prioritize education and the sustainability of youth empowerment programs, noting that empowering the youth is key to national development.
“My focus will be on ensuring that all youth empowerment initiatives remain active and beneficial. Education and employment are central to my agenda,” Muhumuza stated after her nomination.
She added that through collaboration with government and development partners, she intends to create avenues that equip young people with the skills and opportunities they need to thrive.
