The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) has unveiled Tamini General Insurance, an Islamic insurance product operating under Salaam Bank, with its official launch scheduled for March 3.
The launch will be presided over by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at Lugogo Millennium Grounds in Kampala, according to the Presidential Senior Advisor in the ONC, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo.
Hajat Namyalo said the new insurance product is tailored to cater to a wide range of Ugandans, particularly low-income earners, noting that it is structured to be more inclusive compared to traditional insurance schemes.
Officials said further details about coverage options and eligibility criteria will be provided during the official launch ceremony.

Speaking during a press conference held at the ONC offices in Kyambogo, Kampala, the Chief Executive Officer of Tamini Insurance, Mohamad M. Omar, said the product is designed to operate under Islamic insurance principles, where policyholders share both risk and benefit.
Omar explained that under conventional insurance models, beneficiaries typically receive no financial return when their annual policy expires without making a claim. However, under the Tamini model, clients who do not register any claims during the policy period will be eligible to share in the surplus generated, provided no compensation has been paid out.
He noted that the surplus-sharing arrangement promotes fairness and collective responsibility among policyholders.
