Members of the NRM Revolutionary Network have rejected a decision by the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to front Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among and Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa as unopposed candidates for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
The group expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which the CEC reached its decision, arguing that the process denied party members the opportunity to contest for the positions.
They insist that internal democracy should be upheld by allowing competitive elections rather than endorsing candidates without opposition.
Speaking to journalists, Jude Mugaga, clarified that their objection is not directed at the individuals nominated.
Instead, he emphasized that their concern lies with the principle of unopposed candidacy.
Mugaga noted that denying party members the chance to compete undermines democratic values within the party and sets a worrying precedent for future leadership selections.
The development highlights growing internal debate within the NRM over decision-making processes and the need to balance party cohesion with democratic participatio
