The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) held a two-day health camp aimed at promoting staff wellness and productivity. The event, held on 24–25 September 2025 at the Ministry offices in Luzira, Kampala, was organised under the theme “Promoting a Healthy Workforce.”
The health camp offered a wide range of medical services, including HIV screening, female health services, and cervical and breast cancer screening provided by Uganda Cares. Additionally, dental check-ups were offered by iDentalcare, eye examinations by Mengo Hospital, and blood donations were facilitated by Uganda Blood Transfusion Services. Diabetes and blood pressure tests, as well as ultrasound scans, were conducted by medical consultants from Mulago Hospital, while a nutrition expert from Chrysalis advised staff on the importance of proper nutrition for maintaining a productive and healthy life.
According to Permanent Secretary Dr Alfred Okot Okidi, the health drive is a vital component of the Ministry’s broader efforts to improve staff well-being and enhance productivity. The initiative aligns with the Uganda Public Service Standing Orders 2021, which emphasise the importance of employee wellness programmes.
Ms Catherine Nassuna, Under Secretary in the Ministry, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “This is a great opportunity for us to receive such services within the Ministry’s premises.” She added that the health camp demonstrates the top leadership’s commitment to ensuring healthy staff who can support the Ministry in fulfilling its mandate.
The health camp was a collaborative effort between Mulago Hospital, Mengo Hospital, the Blood Bank, WellCare Clinic, and Uganda Cares. It was organised by the Human Resources Division under the Ministry’s Finance and Administration Department.
The event also featured a blood donation drive, with Uganda Police officers attached to the Ministry participating in the initiative.
