A civil society coalition uniting organisations that defend the rights of girls and women, the DVA Coalition, has joined the global community in commemorating the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
Grace Naiga, who leads the organisation UGANET, said that this year the focus is on unity in the fight against domestic violence and online abuse targeting girls.
Naiga added that many human rights defenders mishandle cases related to these issues, making interventions difficult and allowing incidents to continue increasing. She pledged that the coalition will continue to stand firm in defending the rights of girls.

Meanwhile, Ian Kikomeko from Touch the Heart Uganda has urged the government to fully implement the Domestic Violence Act to protect vulnerable people who continue to face gender-based violence and abuse.
