The Uganda Police Force has released updated emergency contact numbers to improve response and communication during the upcoming general elections and other incidents. Speaking at a press conference at Police Headquarters in Naguru, SP Aisha Kayongo emphasised the importance of community engagement.

“We want the community and the public to know that if anyone has an emergency or requires assistance from the police, they should be able to contact us,” SP Kayongo said.

The updated numbers can be used to report various incidents, including election-related violence, robbery, school strikes, murder and other crimes. They include:

  • Operations: 0800 199 699, 0776 999 136, 0707 600 773 (for incidents such as electoral violence, robbery and other emergencies)
  • Child and Family Protection Unit (CFPU): 0800 199 185 (for child-related crimes and domestic violence)
  • National Emergency Centre (NEC): 0800 199 399 (for national emergencies)
  • Traffic: 0800 199 099 (for traffic incidents)
  • Criminal Investigations Department (CID): 0800 200 093 (for crimes such as murder and robbery)
  • 112 / 999: (general emergency lines)

“These numbers will be shared on social media, including Twitter, Facebook and TikTok, as well as through community liaison officers,” SP Kayongo said. The Mobi app, available on the Play Store, also provides contacts for the nearest police station.

SP Kayongo explained the reporting procedure: “The moment you call that number, the person who receives the call will engage with you. You give the location of the incident, and then we dispatch the required rescue or response.”

With 33 Regional Police Departments across the country, police say they are prepared to handle incidents. “We are even more prepared because this is the period when we expect tensions, but we still call on the public to remain calm,” she added.

The police are urging citizens to use these numbers for any emergency, assuring the public of a swift response from patrol vehicles stationed at divisional police stations and mobile units in the field.
