Kitgum municipality grilled for not supporting Women’s Day celebration

Kitgum municipality on Thursday last week came under fire for failing to financially support the belated Women’s Day celebration that was held on March 28, 2024 at the Mayor’s Garden.

Mr. Ayoli Ben Bob, the Pandwong Division Chairperson, who division was one of the contributors for the day castigated the municipal authorities for folding their hands when women needed them to make their day colorful.

Mr. Kidega Patrick Paul, the Kitgum Municipality Deputy Mayor revealed that they had pledged to support the day with 1.5 million shillings but the release of the money was hampered by systems failure. He however apologized and promised that the money would be delivered to the organizing committee once released.

According to the United Nations the year 2024’s theme for the International Women’s Day is “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress” with a focus on addressing economic disempowerment. It highlights the significance of diversity and empowerment across all sectors of society.
