Retailers with fake weighing scales face arrest

Fake weighing scale users in Kitgum district face arrest by the office of the Resident District Commissioner for cheating farmers.

The warning was issued by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Kitgum, Mr. Haji Waliri Marijan who stressed that the fake weighing scales are common and are being used to cheat farmers who are currently selling produce.

He added that produce dealers who are using fake weighing scales will be arrested, their weighing scales confiscated and destroyed adding that the district will also impose penalties on violators.

He calls upon the local leaders, LC3s, GISOs, and the police to coordinate with the office of the RDC to protect farmers.

Mr. Alex Opira the Kitgum District Commercial Officer advised farmers to deal with recognised buyers that have stores and agents in the communities. He however noted that some farmers use whoever has a weighing scale without verification. He also encourages farmers to avoid selling produce as individuals to avoid being cheated.
