Police in Kitgum district are holding four men for allegedly stealing three heads of cattle from Potika subcounty in Lamwo district.

The suspects were intercepted on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in Kitgum Municipality while transporting the stolen animals to an animal market in Lira district.

The stolen cattle belonged to Mr. Onen Willy, a resident of Baralabwo Village, Potika subcounty, Lamwo district.

The suspects have been identified as Mr. Oloya Richard, Ongom Emmanuel, Oyoo Daniel, and Ogenrwot Harafat. They allegedly entered the bush, restrained the livestock, and later called a driver to transport them.

ASP Peter Oyesigye, the Kitgum District Police Commander, stated that the four were intercepted at Conner Ayul in Pager Division with the help of the driver. However, the driver of the Fuso truck, Reg. No. UBL 724Q, who was initially arrested, was later released on bond to allow him to transport other traders to Lira. Upon his return, he is expected to report to Kitgum CPS and write a statement.

ASP Oyesigye further confirmed that the stolen cattle has been returned to their rightful owner, Mr. Onen Willy.

He also expressed concern over the rising cases of livestock theft, particularly during the dry season, and called on all stakeholders to work together to curb the vice.
