Former Kwania North MP calls for parents’ financial support to boost education quality

Former Kwania North Member of Parliament Bob Okae has challenged parents to contribute financially towards their children’s education instead of relying solely on government capitation grants under the Universal Primary and Secondary Education programmes.

Okae says government funding is insufficient to meet the day-to-day operational needs of schools and could undermine the quality of education if parents are excluded from making voluntary contributions.

He was speaking on Saturday as the chief guest at the graduation ceremony of 12 teenage mothers who completed a six-month tailoring course at Kwania District Woman MP Kenny Auma’s Skilling Centre in Abongomola Sub County.

Okae says parents should be allowed to support schools through agreed contributions, arguing that such assistance would improve learning outcomes.

Kwania District Woman Member of Parliament Kenny Auma says government-aided schools where parents contribute through agreed Parents-Teacher Association-PTA resolutions perform better academically.

Auma urged parents to send their children to school and contribute to PTA development funds to improve school facilities and academic performance.

Abongomola Sub County LC3 Chairperson Zumbe Aderi commended MP Auma’s skilling initiative, saying it is helping equip disadvantaged members of the community with practical skills.

Zumbe pledged to work with Auma to expand the project in the sub county.

The beneficiaries, Cavin Akello and Malliam Awino, thanked MP Auma for the training programme.

They pledged to establish their own tailoring workshops and pass on the skills to other teenage mothers and disadvantaged people in their communities.
