Former Mengo SSS chaplin officially installed new dean of Namirembe Cathedral

The Reverend (Rev) Cannon. Dunstan Kiwanuka Mazinga was yesterday installed as the 10th Dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe. He succeeded The Most Rev. Can. Jonathan Kisawuzi Ssalongo who retired last year. The installed Dean has been serving as the Archdeacon of Gayaza Archdeaconry at St. Andrews Church of Uganda-Gayaza, Wakiso district.

The ceremony which was held at the cathedral brought together various dignitaries. In his preaching, the former Dean of Namirembe Cathedral, Rev. Can. Augustine Magala Musiwufu urged church of Uganda leaders to arise and condemn what he called unlawful arrests in the country.

In his message, the Katikiro of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayiga which was delivered by the speaker, Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, the kingdom encouraged the installed Dean to promote well the works of the church and maintain the good relationship between the Kingdom and the church. The installation was led by the current Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, Moses Banja, who congratulated the Dean and wished him God’s grace in his new role.

In 2011 to 2022 Rev. Can. Kiwanuka was serving as the Chaplin of St. John’s Chapel, Mengo Senior Secondary School in Kampala. “I’m so grateful for the love you have been showing me, the period I have been here. But deeply inside me, am crying, because am going to leave you. But above all; let us front the grace of God and prosperity.” he said .

The role of Dean of Namirembe Cathedral is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the cathedral, provides pastoral leadership to the clergy and staff. Another role is to ensure that worship services, programmes and activities align with the cathedral’s mission and values. The Dean also is supposed to ensure that the cathedral remains a vibrant, well-organised and spiritually nourishing centre.

Katongole Coline, one of the believers who witnessed the installation, welcomed the dean and requested him to serve diligently in accordance with the bible. “I welcome the new dean. My appeal to him is to continuously allow God to use him. I have heard he has been a good servant in Gayaza.” he said. The dean was accompanied by his wife, Lovincer Nalusiba Kiwanuka.
